The Sunday Reset

Good morning. The Paris Olympics are underway. To celebrate, we’re identifying recipes that match the aura of three of the games’ most electric athletes.

Sha’Carri Richardson:

She might not break the world record set by FloJo in 1988, but Sha’Carri is the fastest woman living—and the odds-on favorite to win next Saturday’s 100 meter dash. With an expected race time of just over 10 seconds, the American sprinter moves quicker than your eyes can blink—which is exactly how I describe making this buffalo-glazed salmon.

LeBron James:

LeBron—who will turn 40 this year—remains one of the greatest basketball players on the planet. He may no longer be the gravity-defying athlete that dunked everything in sight at the Beijing games, but the two-time gold medalist can still provide Team USA consistent results during the tournament’s most critical moments. Do you know what also always comes through in the clutch? This chickpea veggie bowl with peanut dressing.

Simone Biles:

Earlier this morning, Simone Biles began her quest for additional olympic hardware. If she wins a single medal (she will, she’s Simone Biles), the four foot, eight inch, Ohio-native will pass Shannon Miller to become the most decorated American gymnast of all time. Put plainly: She’s the best at what she does. And so is Marcella Hazan, whose tomato sauce recipe remains the best we’ve found.

Recipe Spotlight

By the closing ceremony, chefs within the Olympic Village will have baked more than 12,000 baguettes. In a recent article, we stated that every one of those loaves—regardless of quality, origin, or freshness—could be turned into something delicious, so long as they follow one of these 15 baguette-having recipes. Here are some of our favorites:

Don't Miss This

Earlier this week, César demonstrated that “weeknight seafood boil” isn’t just a killer band name, but an actual culinary possibility. Seriously—if you follow César’s recipe, you’ll have a pot of deeply flavorful, perfectly cooked shellfish within 40 minutes. Get the recipe here.

Last week, we conducted a taste test on non-fancy vanilla ice creams. Think: Pints you could find in the freezer aisle of any grocery store. Click here to find out who won.

Team Favorites

According to Tam, our social producer and the fastest person in our office (the latter has not been verified), there’s one dish he always craves after a long run or workout.

“Before the run ends, I’m already thinking about diving into this spicy pork ragu that’s been simmering on my stove.”

The recipe’s comment section agrees, where separate community members have declared this dish “the only sauce recipe you need,” “the best meat sauce I’ve ever made,” and “the best recipe I’ve made from Food52.” You can find the lauded recipe here.

Women Are Amazing

That’s a wrap for this week!

See you next Sunday for more chatter about what’s happening at Food52 HQ.
